  • Awareness of the Norwegian Continental Shelf and offshore operations.

  • Coursework, thesis, or project work in petrophysics, formation evaluation, or well-log analysis.

  • Exposure to interpretation software (e.g., Techlog, Petrel, IP) or scripting languages (e.g., Python).

About the job

This isn't just a graduate program; it's the start of your journey to help redefine a major industrial company. As a Graduate Petrophysicist in our 2027 program, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Petrophysics Excellence team, delivering high-quality formation evaluation across our exploration and production wells. This structured program will develop your fundamental petrophysical competence, encompassing practical experience in wellbore data quality control, formation pressure/fluid evaluation, core data analysis, and log interpretation under supervision. You will contribute to formation evaluation for various well types and integrate petrophysical models with wider subsurface teams. Importantly, you'll be immersed in Aker BP's digital workflows, applying automation, machine learning, and AI to streamline analyses, improve data quality, and strengthen decision-making in line with our ambition to be the first AI-native E&P company.

  • Structured development
Engage in a structured graduate program designed to build fundamental petrophysical competence.

  • AI & Digital focus
Immerse yourself in advanced data analysis, machine learning, and AI applications for subsurface evaluation.

  • Real-world impact
Contribute directly to high-quality formation evaluation for Aker BP's exploration and production wells.

  • Collaborative environment
Work closely with multidisciplinary subsurface teams, integrating critical petrophysical insights.

  • Continuous improvement
Drive innovation and contribute to Aker BP's 3x productivity ambition through process optimization.

Your journey in Petrophysics

This isn't a narrow specialization. You'll gain a holistic view by rotating through the core disciplines that drive our formation evaluation and subsurface understanding, focusing on these key areas:

  • Wellbore data QC & management
Ensure accuracy and integrity of well data, performing QC, editing, and depth-matching for final composite log datasets.

  • Formation pressure & fluid evaluation
Quality control and evaluation of formation pressure data to estimate fluid gradients and contacts.

  • Core data analysis & integration
Quality control and evaluation of routine core data to determine rock properties and strength, calibrating log-derived properties to core measurements.

  • Well log interpretation
Analyze well log data to estimate key rock properties (shale volume, porosity, water saturation, permeability, net reservoir/pay) under supervision.

  • Exploration & volumetric input
Contribute to formation evaluation for exploration, appraisal, and development wells, providing reserves/volumetric input.

  • Petrophysical modeling & integration
Perform petrophysical modeling and integrate with multidisciplinary subsurface teams, guided by experienced petrophysicists.

  • Digital & AI application
Engage with Aker BP's digital workflows, applying automation, machine learning, and AI to streamline petrophysical analysis and improve decision-making.
