Are you driven to solve real-world energy challenges by connecting data, AI, and hands-on operational experience? Join our Graduate Program – a cornerstone of our ambition to lead the energy transition and become the first AI-native E&P company.

Need to have

  • M.Sc. degree in Automation, Cybernetics, Industrial IT, or a closely related field.

  • Academic results reflecting a 'B' average or higher (or equivalent).

  • Fluent in both English and Norwegian, and legally authorized to work in Norway for the program's duration.

  • Ability to perform technical calculations for control system logic, process automation, signal processing, and system performance analysis relevant to SAS, PCS, and other automated systems.

  • Eagerness to spend significant time offshore, gaining hands-on experience in critical operational environments.

Nice to have

  • A curious, proactive attitude, taking ownership and actively seeking opportunities to learn and contribute, with a structured and analytical mindset.

  • Relevant prior experience from studies, internships, summer jobs, or a master's/project thesis in automation, control systems, or industrial IT, preferably within an industrial or oil & gas context. An Apprenticeship Certificate in a relevant discipline is a significant advantage.

  • Working knowledge of relevant tools and systems such as DCS/PLC/SIS (for process/safety control), SCADA, PIMS/data historian systems, industrial communication protocols, and engineering documentation tools. Experience with Python or Power BI is a plus.

  • Practical experience using AI tools to enhance personal work efficiency (e.g., analysis, documentation, code generation) and an understanding of applying AI/machine learning to optimize operations, integrate systems, and enhance efficiency within automation and control system domains.

About the job

This is not just a graduate program; it's the start of your journey to help redefine a major industrial company. As an Automation and OT/Telecom Engineer in our 2027 Graduate Program, you will be at the forefront of Aker BP's ambition to become the world's first AI-native E&P company. Through a series of rotations and crucial offshore and onshore placements, you will develop the skills to handle complex technical problems at the interface of hardware and software, contributing to our goal of a 3x productivity improvement.

  • Control & Safety systems optimization
Support the operation and optimization of critical control and safety systems (SAS, PCS).

  • Testing & Commissioning
Participate in functional testing, loop checks, and commissioning activities for automated systems.

  • System troubleshooting & Improvement
Assist in troubleshooting and performance improvement of automated systems to ensure efficient operations.

  • Digitalization & Integration
Contribute to digitalization initiatives and system integration projects to enhance process efficiency.

  • Multidisciplinary collaboration
Work with multidisciplinary teams to improve process efficiency and stability across operations.

Your journey in Automation

This role places you directly at the interface of hardware and software, offering hands-on experience with systems critical to real-time operations. Unlike many other disciplines, you will frequently work across both offshore and onshore contexts, gaining a holistic understanding of system interactions and contributing to digitalization, remote operations, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Automation & Process control
Work with DCS/PLC/SIS, SCADA, and other process control systems to optimize operations and ensure safety.

  • OT networks & Communication
Secure and manage operational technology networks and communication infrastructure, both offshore and onshore.

  • Digitalization & AI application
Contribute to system integration, apply data analysis (PIMS/historian) and AI tools to enhance operational efficiency.

  • OT Cybersecurity
Implement and maintain cybersecurity measures crucial for protecting critical OT infrastructure.

  • Offshore rotations
Gain mandatory hands-on experience in a live offshore environment, applying your skills to real-world challenges.

  • Practical problem solving
Assist in troubleshooting and performance improvement of automated systems, tackling real-world challenges.
