Dry well in the Norwegian Sea
Det norske oljeselskap ASA, operator of production license 380, has finished drilling of wildcat 6407/2-4 (Fongen). The well was spudded ca. 6m west of the Midgard gasfield 6507/11-1 in the Norwegian Sea.
The well tested potential hydrocarbon reservoirs of the Middle Jurassic (Fangst Group). The well is dry. Reservoir rocks were encountered with the prognosed thicknesses and good reservoir quality.
The well is the first exploration well in production license 380. The license was awarded January 6th 2006 after the 2005 APA round. The well was drilled to a vertical depth of 2972m below sea-level and was terminated inside the Ile Formation of Middle Jurassic age. The water depth at the well location was 269 meters. The well will be permanently plugged and abandoned.
Well 6407/2-4 was drilled by the drilling rig Songa Delta which will proceed operations in production license 483S in the Norwegian Sea and drill wildcat 6609/10-2 with Det norske oljeselskap ASA as operator.
Holders of production license 380 are Det norske oljeselskap ASA (70%) and VNG Norge AS (30%).
