Next generation party leaders visit the Edvard Grieg field offshore

Where were today’s party leaders for Young Conservatives, AUF, Progress Party Youth, Centre Youth, Socialist Youth, Young Liberals, Young Christian Democrats and Green Youth when the Edvard Grieg field started oil and gas production in 2016?

How do these young politicians view the future of the Norwegian continental shelf and the oil and gas industry? Where might the industry be in 2050 – or in 2100?

On Monday, 24 August 2026, leaders from several youth parties with parent parties in the Storting visited the Edvard Grieg field west of Stavanger. The politicians experienced the full offshore journey: donning the survival suit standard for offshore flights, touring the platform, having lunch on board with employees, seeing the cabins where staff stay while at work, and visiting the heart of the platform – the control room. 

The conversations throughout the day reflected a range of views on petroleum policy – from strong support for continued activity to calls for a rapid phase-out of oil and gas operations. 

Eiga asset
Edvard Grieg produces oil and gas, receives power from shore and was assembled at the yard in Stord. During the construction period, important deliveries also came from Egersund, Eastern Norway, Sandnessjøen and Verdal, among others. Edvard Grieg is a part of the Eiga asset, which also includes the Ivar Aasen installation.
