Senior Data Scientist

This position is in the Subsurface Data Science team. The team is responsible for Aker BPs efforts in applying data science and artificial intelligence to interpret, screen, process, and enrich subsurface data to make more accurate and less biased decisions. Subsurface Data Science is embedded in the subsurface technical community, and the team works closely with the relevant subsurface disciplines such as geology, geophysics, petrophysics and reservoir engineering on both internal and external projects.
We are a robust and established team, and we are looking for a senior data scientist to join our ranks to further strengthen our capabilities.
Typical work tasks can be:
- Contribute hands-on as a senior data scientist in our digital projects
- Lead internal data science projects and co-developments with external partners
- Test, evaluate and give advice on new technology and external vendors
- Help develop and steer our ecosystem in data, compute, MLOps and DevOps
- Mentor graduates, supervise summer interns, follow up master's and PhD students
- Disseminate your work internally and externally at conferences, and keep an ear to the ground for what is happening in subsurface data science research and development
Skills and qualifications:
- MSc or PhD in data science, computer science, mathematics, physics or other relevant quantitative field of study
- Experience in programming and scientific or software-oriented code development in a team
- Minimum 5 years' experience within applied data science either in industry, consulting or in academia
- Experience with subsurface data is a strong advantage but not a strict requirement
- The successful applicant will be given the necessary training to succeed.
- Fluent in English or Norwegian, both verbal and written
