Nice to have

  • A self-starter who takes ownership of your own learning and development, demonstrating curiosity and a structured approach to problem-solving.

  • A collaborative team player who actively shares knowledge and contributes to a shared mission, comfortable breaking down complex problems and asking thoughtful questions.

  • An adaptable mindset, open to working across a wide range of technical disciplines and comfortable with uncertainty and incomplete information.

  • A drive to continuously improve processes, questioning the status quo to find better solutions, particularly through digital tools and scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, Excel/VBA).

  • Clear and concise communication skills, ready to engage with teams in the office and where applicable, with offshore teams.

  • Experience with internships, summer jobs, thesis work, or research related to reservoir engineering, field development, production optimisation, or data analysis.

About the job

This is not just a graduate program; it's the start of your journey to help redefine a major industrial company. As a Reservoir Engineer in our 2027 Graduate Program, you will be at the forefront of Aker BP's ambition to become the world's first AI-native E&P company. Through a series of rotations, you will develop the skills to handle complex technical problems and contribute to our goal of a 3x productivity improvement.

  • Rotational learning
Rotate through diverse Reservoir Engineering disciplines to gain a holistic understanding of the subsurface value chain, supporting reservoir studies and model preparation.

  • Data & AI application
Apply data analysis, scripting (e.g., Python), and AI tools to solve tangible technical problems in reservoir performance, surveillance, and management.

  • Multidisciplinary collaboration
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (geoscience, drilling, production) to plan and execute field development and production optimization projects, documenting assumptions and performing technical analyses.

  • Task ownership
Take ownership of well-defined tasks like data preparation, routine analyses, and presentation material, supporting senior engineers on larger technical decisions.

  • Productivity & Innovation
Actively contribute to our 3x productivity ambition by identifying and implementing improvement opportunities in reservoir management through technical insight and innovative solutions.

Your journey in Reservoir Engineering

This isn't a narrow specialization. You'll gain a holistic view by rotating through the core disciplines that drive our subsurface operations, from initial characterization to long-term production strategies.

  • Reservoir simulation & Modeling
Learn to develop and utilize models to predict reservoir behavior and optimize recovery, including running model cases and interpreting results.

  • Production optimization
Master techniques for maximizing hydrocarbon recovery and efficiency, and contribute to field development and infill well evaluations.

  • Subsurface data analysis & AI
Explore advanced data analytics, scripting (e.g., Python), and AI applications for reservoir characterization, surveillance, and forecasting.

  • Field development planning
Understand the strategic planning of new fields and infill wells for long-term value, supporting multidisciplinary discussions.

  • Uncertainty quantification
Learn to assess and manage geological and reservoir uncertainties in decision-making, working with incomplete information.

  • Reservoir excellence & AI
Work with our digital teams to deploy AI and improve how we work in reservoir management, focusing on efficiency and innovation.
