Are you a data enthusiast eager to build the robust data foundations that power advanced analytics and AI? Join our Graduate Program as a Data Engineer/Digital, where you'll architect intelligent solutions from complex industrial data, shaping Aker BP's journey to become the first AI-native E&P company.

Need to have

  • Hold an M.Sc. degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering/Science, Software Engineering, Informatics, Applied Mathematics/Statistics, Cybernetics, or a closely related engineering field with a strong programming and data component. A petroleum or energy background with genuine coding ability is also welcome.

  • Possess solid programming fundamentals (ideally Python), working knowledge of SQL/relational data, and a real grasp of data structures and software engineering practices (version control, testing).

  • Demonstrate the ability to write tested, production-grade code.

  • Be fluent in English (written and spoken) for professional communication.

  • Hold a valid EEA work permit and be able to work from our Norway office locations.

Nice to have

  • Have relevant practical experience from internships, summer jobs as a developer/data engineer, a relevant bachelor/master thesis or research project, hackathons, open-source contributions, or having built something real (e.g., data pipeline, application, model) outside coursework.

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (Azure preferred), distributed data processing (Spark/Databricks), databases & data modeling, ML/AI foundations, DevOps/CI-CD, and software architecture.

  • Familiarity with tools and languages such as Python, SQL, Git, Spark/Databricks, Docker/containers, dbt, and agile methodologies.

  • Be genuinely curious and pragmatic, motivated by building usable solutions and transforming messy data into clean, reliable insights.

  • Demonstrate strong collaboration and communication skills, with a positive energy that contributes to team dynamics.

About the job

This is not just a graduate program; it's the start of your journey to build the critical data infrastructure for a leading energy company. As a Data Engineer/Digital in our 2027 Graduate Program, you will be at the forefront of Aker BP's ambition to become the world's first AI-native E&P company. Through a series of rotations, you will develop the skills to handle complex data challenges, architect robust data platforms, and contribute directly to our goal of a 3x productivity improvement through data-driven innovation.

  • Build & Operate pipelines
Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines that move and model industrial data from diverse source systems (operational, subsurface, sensor) into our central platform.

  • Contextualize industrial data
Contribute to data products in Cognite Data Fusion (CDF), structuring and contextualizing complex industrial data for broad business use.

  • Cloud-native development
Develop transformations and models in our cloud/lakehouse environment (Azure + Databricks/Spark), writing tested, production-grade code with Git and CI/CD.

  • Ensure data quality
Support data quality, monitoring, and reliability by investigating broken pipelines, tracing data lineage, and enhancing observability to build trust in our data.

  • Collaborate & Innovate
Work closely with data consumers (analysts, domain experts) to translate business questions into impactful data solutions, fostering a data-driven culture.

Your journey in the Data Platform Ecosystem

This program offers a comprehensive immersion into the diverse facets of data engineering. You'll gain a holistic understanding of how data is captured, processed, and utilized across our operations, empowering the next generation of energy solutions.

  • Onboarding & Fundamentals
Gain immediate hands-on experience, learn our tooling and stack, and contribute small, well-scoped tasks within weeks, guided by senior engineers.

  • Pipeline ownership
By month 6, you'll own the end-to-end delivery of well-defined data pipelines and products, becoming a reliable contributor to your squad.

  • Problem shaping & Delivery
By month 18, you'll be trusted to take ambiguous stakeholder problems, shape them into robust data solutions with limited oversight, and begin mentoring new graduates.

  • Platform contribution
Actively participate in code reviews, agile ceremonies, and platform improvements, contributing to how we work and continuously enhancing our data infrastructure.

  • Data liberation initiatives
Engage in initiatives to make data more accessible and self-serve, directly enabling AI and agentic use cases on well-governed data.

  • Advanced data solutions
Explore areas like distributed data processing, advanced data modeling, and ML/AI integration, pushing the boundaries of what our data can achieve.
