Det norske has a comprehensive program to support research, education and economic development in northern Norway. The program has an overall frame of around 15 million. With the company’s office in Harstad as a base, Det norske has entered into several agreements with industry and research and education bodies. Det norske is actively working to strengthen the region’s position as increased petroleum activity in the north is expected.

Det norske collaborates with “Verftsringen Nord Norge” in sevaral ways, to support the shipbuilding industry in the north of Norway. Det norske has contributed with 2.3 million to support businesses seeking ISO certification, ISO 9001, 2008 certification. ISO 9001 and 14001 is the door opener for potential deliveries to the oil and gas industry.

“Verftsringen Nord Norge” has 24 companies as members, spread from Sandnessjøen in the south to Kirkenes in the north. Of these, 16 have participated in the certification campaign. In northern Norway there has been no culture or tradition to obtain this type of documentation. This is now about to change. Det norske’s contribution has therefore been important, and the support came at a time when the financial crisis put a solid end to this type of activities for the companies.

Maritim Sveiseservice in Tromsø has, as the first, reached the target of an approved ISO 9001 certification. Until now, only Skarvik Mek. Verksted in Svolvær has held this certification in the region.

Det norske hopes that the successful efforts of Maritim Sveiseservice will inspire other companies for action to achieve the same goal.
